Part of A framework for social listening reviews in England
Convosphere and The Social Element reviewed on the record, not the pitch
Review two England-linked social listening agencies through current service and Companies House records, then identify proposal evidence still missing.
What to take away
- Neither agency wins this review. Both passed the same inclusion test: a public listening or social audit service page plus a live Companies House record.
- Convosphere Ltd (company 09289425) publishes multilingual social analysis and listening. The Social Element Limited (company 04387433) publishes monitoring, sentiment-supported analysis and strategic interpretation.
- No price, quality score or ranking appears here, because none of the sources checked contains one. Price and quality sit in the proposal and the paid sample.
- Before signing, ask both for named analysts, the language list, classifier validation, one contactable reference and a shared low-risk test task.
- The entity on the signature page owes the obligations. A trading name or group logo does not.
What this review grades, and what it refuses to grade
The editorial desk checked records on 5 September 2026. Inclusion required a public social listening or social audit service page plus a matching active England and Wales Companies House record.
Inclusion criteria
Public social listening service page?
check Companies House record
exclude agency
No agency paid for inclusion, and no affiliate relationship exists. Client quotes, logos and claimed outcomes were set aside.
This review grades eligibility for a written proposal only. It does not grade delivery quality, price or fitness for your brief, because the sources checked contain no such evidence. That limit is deliberate, not an oversight.
The fuller method, with declared evidence grades for agencies as well as products, sits in our review framework for England in 2027.
What each agency publishes about its service
Convosphere's about page describes multilingual social analysis and listening. That is a service claim, not proof of coverage. Ask which language pairs are staffed in house and which are subcontracted.
Companies House records Convosphere Ltd, company 09289425 as an England and Wales company, the entity a brief would be sent to.
The Social Element's listening service page describes monitoring, sentiment-supported analysis and strategic interpretation. Ask how sentiment is validated and who answers an alert.
Companies House identifies The Social Element Limited, company 04387433, the separate legal entity behind that page.
Tool questions matter as much as the promise. The source and supplier checks in our comparison of five social listening tools are worth attaching to the brief.

The table puts register facts beside public service claims. A uniform cell means unverified, not absent, and not equal.
Example: the evidence pack to request before a paid task
- Send one brief to both agencies, naming the decision the listening must support.
- Name the delivery lead, analysts and quality reviewer, plus the substitute rule.
- List the tools, source coverage, query design and sampling rule you expect.
- Request the codebook, the disagreement log and the correction trail.
- Ask for one reference whose language, sources and geography match your brief, then contact that referee yourself.
- Approve privacy, source access and IP boundaries before any data changes hands.
Proposal evidence checklist
- Named analysts and reviewers
- Allocation and tools
- Upstream source permissions
- Query design and sampling
- Codebook and error review
- Privacy roles and IP position
- Security scope and accessibility
- Change control, support route and exit pack
Run the paid sample on the same low-risk material for both agencies. Compare query choices, coding disagreements, corrections and the delivery handover. A strong sample supports the named team and no one else.
How to verify service quality when no ranking exists
Ask whether the agency holds certification to a research quality standard such as ISO 20252, or an information security standard such as ISO 27001. Check the standard's own scope at the British Standards Institution, not the badge on the agency's site.
Ask too which research body the agency belongs to, such as the MRS or ESOMAR, and which code of conduct it has signed.
References carry more weight than awards. Record what the referee directly observed and what stays opinion. Confidentiality is a fair answer, but mark the criterion unknown rather than accepting a case study in its place.
The appointment needs a contract that settles source rights, subprocessors, security and exit. Our walkthrough of social listening contracts sets out the clauses that decide who carries each risk.
Common questions
Are Convosphere and The Social Element credible agencies?
Both are registered England and Wales companies with public pages describing listening work. This review confirms they exist and describe relevant services. It does not confirm delivery quality, because no source checked measures it.
Which one is better for a buyer?
Neither is ranked here. Convosphere's public page leans towards multilingual analysis, which suits a brief needing human language and cultural review, while The Social Element's page leans towards monitoring and interpretation. Ask both to evidence the fit.
What do these agencies cost?
No price is published in the sources checked, and none is quoted here. Agency fees usually follow languages, source volume and analyst time. Set a budget range, then ask both to price the same written scope.
What should I demand before appointment?
Named people, the language and source list, the query design, and classifier validation if sentiment is claimed. Add one contactable reference and a paid sample on identical material. Then check that the contract entity matches the proposal.
